Logitech has created the first ever Skype camera for HDTV. That’s right, you can now sit back on your couch and chat with someone on Skype. Logitech unveiled this new webcam this week. If you’re a Skype enthusiast, you will love what the new Logitech camera has to offer. Here are some additional details.

How the Logitech HDTV Webcam Works

Not only is this a webcam, but it’s also a Skype client. You don’t have to connect with Skype separately or find another way to connect, it’s all part of the webcam deal. This webcam connects to Skype wireless through your HDTV and sits nicely on top of your TV or near it. Logitech put a lot of thought into the design of this webcam including a nice wide-angle lens that was actually designed by Carl Weiss. This webcam is capable of capturing more than one person simultaneously, and it also reduces noise quite efficiently.

Thanks to the noise reduction quality of this webcam, you can comfortably chat with someone on Skype while sitting at home. There’s no need to worry about the sound of your air conditioner or some street noise. Images also show up very well with this webcam, so there’s nothing to worry about there either. Unfortunately, Logitech’s new webcam can’t help you if you have an old or tattered couch, so make sure that whatever you’re sitting on is presentable enough (and, please, remember to get dressed!).

Logitech’s Design

From the spec pictures that Logitech has released, it appears as though this webcam is nicely designed. The only aspect of the HDTV webcam for Skype that seems to be a bit out of date is the thickness of the console. Then again, this could simply be the way that the photographs of the webcam have been taken. Really, the Logitech webcam should sit on top of your entertainment system just fine. Right now, Logitech has released photos of a black webcam, and there’s no word on whether or not a different color may soon pop up.

The First of Its Kind

While there are webcams out there that are considered HDTV grade, Logitech’s webcam is the first to integrate Skype. This webcam is really for those who spend long hours using Skype or just want something more comfortable (and possibly more flattering) than a standard computer webcam. Seemingly, the future of webcams is bright. While Logitech is the first company to come out with a Skype HDTV webcam, I doubt that it will be the last. Hopefully, webcams will be universally flattering one day, while also providing something useful like Logitech’s Skype connection.

If you love the idea of a Skype HDTV Webcam, you will be happy to know that this new offering from Logitech will arrive on store shelves later this month. As far as pricing goes, no information is available yet, but I’m guessing it will be competitively priced. For now, though, you’ll have to keep using your computer’s webcam, as bad as it may be!
