October 26th will be a big tablet day. A number of major tablet manufacturers are launching Windows 8 tablets that day. Inside of a number of these tablets will be Intel’s Clover Trail processor. Intel is holding a press conference showcasing many of these tablets. Included in the lineup are tablets from Acer, Lenovo, Samsung, Dell, and various others. Why is Intel’s latest chip such big news? Intel has devised a chip that has hyperthreading support. Clover Trail also includes some other impressive numbers – so impressive that most tablet manufacturers are heading in the Clover Trail direction.

What Clover Trail Has to Offer

In addition to hyperthreading support, Intel’s Clover Trail chip supports 2GB of memory, Intel’s Burst technology, and has a 533 MHz graphics core. The chip is of the 32 dual processor sort, and also supports 4G LTE, 3G, WIFI, NFC and GPS. All of these specs are impressive enough to entice tablet manufacturers. Consumers looking to purchase a new Windows 8 tablet will have their fair share of enjoyment too. Intel’s Clover Trail chips should add up to ten hours of battery life (approximate) per tablet.

Intel’s new SOix state ensures twenty-percent less power consumption. In turn, this adds up to less battery time wasted. An extended battery life is something that most consumers will definitely prize. Any tablet packing a Clover Trail chip will also be lightweight. You can expect most upcoming Windows 8 tablets to weigh less than 1.5 pounds, which is a nice portable weight.

Windows 8: Better With Clover Trail

There are other chips on the market that compare to Clover Trail. But, Intel has designed Clover Trail specifically for the Windows 8 platform. Intel’s chip has an x8g processor that can run Windows 8 smoothly. Other chip manufacturers can’t make the same claim. Simply put, that new Windows 8 tablet will run just as efficiently as a pricey Windows PC. Essentially, Windows 8 and Clover Trail go hand-in-hand, and that’s why so many new Windows 8 tablets will be stocked with Clover Trail. Intel plans to show off these tablets at the aforementioned press conference.

Pricing and Availability

At the time of this writing, only a few Clover Trail tablets have surfaced. So far, though, the pricing on these tablets has been on the high side. You could be looking at tablets priced well over $600 running Windows 8 and Clover Trail combined. Whether or not Windows 8 tablets will live up to the hype is another story. Since the holiday season is fast approaching, it’s a good idea to wait and see what the general Windows 8/Clover Trail consensus is before choosing a Windows 8 tablet over, say, an iPad or other Android offering.

Right now, Windows 8 is the newest shiny toy, but it could be overhyped. Further, all of the tablets that Intel plans to show off will be unique. Even though each tablet will have a Clover Trail chip, each tablet will have different components and designs. In short, wait until all tablets are on the market (after October 26th), and then start building that holiday wish list.
