It's fun to play games in bed. You shouldn't, because it will keep you up for hours and mess with your sleep patterns, but it's still fun.

You can play some serious games using a handheld device like the Vita, but that will require you to purchase said device (and shell out a few hundred bucks). Or, you can use Steam's new in-home streaming system.

What's that? Steam has a new in-home streaming option? It does! Are you excited yet? Steam has an in-home streaming option, and it's coming to a home near you very, very, soon. But, it's already come to the Internet's lucky tech reviewers. So, let's take a pre-look at what Steam's new in-home setup can do.

Simple Couldn't Be Simpler

There's nothing worse than a great idea with a complicated setup. Thankfully, that's not the way that Steam has worked out its in-home system. You don't have to have your PC and your, say, MacBook next to each other. At all. The only thing you need to do is sign both systems into the same Steam account. Once that's done, you can play games as much as you want on your laptop in bed or at your desk.

This sounds amazing, right? Well, it is. Or, the reviews that have come in thus far have pointed to amazing, at least. Why is it such a big deal? Because you can stream Linux games to your Mac or steam Windows games to your Mac or stream any game to any other setup. See? I told you it was amazing!

What Else Can Steam Do?

If you have something set up on Steam, like Adobe's Photoshop, for example, you can access that program from any device too. Again, all you have to do is log into your Steam account, set everything up on your system, and you're good to go. It's all very simple, and it's a great way to stream any game at any time to any device - you just need Steam.

So, how's the quality of a streaming game? Well, that's going to be the hard part to judge. Right now, the Steam in-home streaming option is in beta mode, so these kinks haven't all been worked out yet. However, reviewers that have had a first chance have told press that the quality is, surprisingly, quite good. Is it as good as it would be on a really powerful PC? Maybe not. Or, maybe. You can set the screen resolution and bandwidth that you want, and that puts this setup a step ahead.

When It Will Arrive

Okay, so when can you get your hands on Steam's new in-home streaming setup? There's no word yet when the rest of us will get to check out Steam's new streaming option. But, it looks like it won't be too far in the future. Steam already has it all set up, worked out, and ready to roll, they're just waiting for beta testers to weigh in.
