Gaming laptops tend to be monstrous things. The lack of laptop portability offered by these gaming devices can also be a bragging rite: Hey! Check out the heft of my laptop! But, as much as gamers might like to brag about a large laptop that’s hard to carry around, portability is kind of important. Really. Just think of a time when you might have to travel and won’t (gasp!) be able to plug in your laptop.

For those times, there are a number of light and new gaming laptops on the market. These laptops can run any demanding game, have great graphics, and won’t cause your shoulder to dislocate should you need to leave your family room. Take a look below.

Number One Pick: Lenovo Ideapad Y580

Lenovo isn’t necessarily known as a gaming laptop kind of company – just hear me out. This laptop comes with an Intel Core i7 processor; NVIDIA GeForce GTX660M 2GB; 1TB 5400 rpm hard drive; 8.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3 SDRAM 1600 MHz memory, and a decent price tag (base) at $979.

Most importantly, this laptop only weighs around 6 pounds. Six pounds is heavier than other laptops, but in the gaming world it’s a lightweight. The Lenovo Ideapad also has decent battery life at 2.5 hours. Again, not amazing battery life when compared to non-gaming laptops, but a respectable amount of battery life considering what’s inside of this machine. Not sold on what Lenovo has to offer? Number Two Pick: Asus G75VW

Asus has gained a lot of traction over the past few years. The company that produced less than mediocre laptops is now coming out with some stellar stuff – and Asus’ tablets aren’t half bad either. Up next on this list is the G75VW. Inside this laptop is an Intel Core i7 processor; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M/670M with 2GB/3GB GDDR5 VRAM graphics card; and has the same battery life as the Lenovo laptop listed above (2.5).

This laptop also comes with a killer design that’s nice all around. The only thing I don’t love about the G75VW is the weight – at around 9 pounds, this is not a light laptop. The Asus G75VW retails for around $1200 depending on the screen size chosen. Not sold on the Asus laptop? There’s one more that might do the trick.

Number Three Pick: The Razer Blade

The Razer Blade is simply nice to look at. It also comes with A 2.2GHz Core i7-3632QM processor; a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M card; and 8GB of RAM. Granted, you will pay a lot for this laptop at just over $1200. The Blade weighs 6 pounds and comes with the longest battery life of any laptop reviewed here (3.5 hours).

But, is the Razer worth the price? In this reviewer’s opinion, the Razer Blade is a stellar laptop all around with excellent components and a great design. It’s also a portable gaming laptop that won’t disappoint if you aren’t near an outlet.

So, which one do you choose? As always, it’s recommended that you test each one out. All of these laptops are comparable when it comes to specs, but each design is drastically different.
