Here’s an idea that this reviewer really loves: Vimessa allows you to record and send video messages from your iPhone to anyone in the world – even if that person doesn’t have an iPhone. Why is this such a great app? First of all, Vimessa is free. Second of all, how many times have you been traveling when you wish that you could send someone a personalized message? With Vimessa, you can send someone a message using a phone number, but you can also send a message to someone’s email address.

To use this app, you will need to head to the Apple App Store and download Vimessa. Sadly, this app is not available through the Android Marketplace, though you can send someone who has an Android phone a message using the app. Vimessa has not stated whether or not this app will be available in the Android Marketplace any time soon. If you have an iPhone, grab your phone, download the app, and then follow the instructions. Here’s a run-through of the app by yours truly.

Setting Up the App

When you first download Vimessa, you will be asked to enter your phone number (securely stored), name, and email address. After entering this information, Vimessa will send a text to your phone that you must reply to by clicking on the activation link. Once that’s done, you can start using the app by selecting the “new” button.

After clicking this button, you can record your video message (the app will pull up a list of your contacts from your phone directory). It takes just one minute to record your message (or longer if you want to leave a longer message), and when you’re done all you have to do is press “stop.” After recording, choose a contact and press the “send” button.

It takes a few seconds to send a message, but once a message has been sent, there’s nothing else to do but wait for a response. I was not able to send a message to someone’s email address using this app, though this is supposed to be an option. It’s also important to note that you must enter a country code in order to send a video message, so keep this in mind if you are sending a message long distance.

A Clever Idea

Vimessa is a lot of fun to use. This is especially true if you don’t mind using a video camera to record messages. Now, if Vimessa could team up with Facebook Messenger, that would be fantastic – imagine sending video messages to contacts on your Facebook list for free. Right now, Vimessa is relatively new, and some speculate that this company may be swallowed up by other companies such as Skype.

However, Vimessa has an original, simple, user-friendly app going right now. This is an app that many people will find useful (after all, it’s much quicker to say what you want to say rather than trying to type out a long message via text!).

It’s also a clever app that will gain a large following if enough people know about it. If you have an iPhone, go ahead and download this free app. I can’t see anything wrong with the app, and it’s also a lot of fun to play with.
