Have you heard of D30? This material is flexible and looks a lot like play slime, but it serves a direct purpose. D30 is a gooey substance that hardens upon impact. So, as you can see, it’s the perfect material to use when making iPhone cases.

A company called Tech21 developed the material and makes cases for iPhones, and now Tech21 has come out with a new case specifically designed for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Tech 21’s newest case is called the Evo Mesh.

Evo Mesh Explained

Basically, Evo Mesh is D30 in a thinner form. Evo Mesh acts and looks like D30, but these cases actually form to fit an iPhone snugly once the phone has been placed inside of the case. Plus, Evo Mesh comes with side grooves that were added to the case, so that the case can fit snugly around the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Evo Mesh isn’t available for any other phone yet, but you can buy it for your iPhone 6 or 6 Plus exclusively through the Apple store (this case isn’t even sold on Tech21’s website) for around $35.

If you don’t have an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus, you can still buy the D30 case, but you’ll have to opt for the one that the company devised last year - which, by the way, is still really impressive. Just think about slime that turns rock hard the moment something hits it. So, your phone case will be nice and soft in your pocket or in your bag, but if you drop the case it turns into something resembling rock candy or plastic or glass or another hard surface.

The Demonstration

To give you a better idea of how D30 works, the company has been demonstrating this substance at tech conferences by wrapping the goo (literally, the goo comes in a big bucket and is as stringy as mozzarella), around a rep’s finger, and then proceeding to smash the finger wrapped in the goo with a hammer. The goo protects the finger because it turns into a hard rock-like substance immediately.

Well, this is pretty much how the substance acts when it’s wrapped around your iPhone. These cases are really popular because they look great, they are super thin and light, and they really protect your phone better than other cases - plus, they don’t have the bulk that a case like the Otterbox has, which is a benefit for some people that don’t want to carry around a bulky phone - why buy a thin phone and wrap it in a really bulky case? That doesn’t make much sense, and it seems to be the thought behind the D30 material.

FlexShock

The D30 case that was developed for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus comes in many colors, while the original D30 case only comes in blue. But, both types of cases are actually really pretty to look at, and the thin mesh design of the FlexShock makes your phone look very interesting too.

This is a really good case to look into buying if you want to protect your new phone, but you don’t want to buy a really big case. Check out the FlexShock case and the original D30 case in the Apple Store.
