Let’s say that you are an Android fan for the sake of being a fan. But, you like what Apple has done with the latest iPhone models. The options for Android phones that look like iPhone are limited, but you could take a look at the newest phone from Huawei.

The company isn’t that well known in North America (largely because none of its designs ever take off outside of China), but that might all change with the Huawei P8.

Why the P8 Is Different

If you glance at photos of the P8 quickly, you could easily mistake this phone for an iPhone 6. From the materials used to the overall design of the phone, it is an iPhone for all purposes. The phone is built solidly, though, and it’s not just another knock-off. The P8 comes with a 5.2-inch screen, a 13-megapixel rear camera (8-megapixel on front), 16GB of internal storage, 3GB of RAM, and a 2GHz/1.5GHz octa-core processor.

The Confusing Parts

It will take some time to get used to the UI. In fact, playing around with this phone will quickly remind you that it is not an iPhone even though it looks like one. The P8 runs on Android’s Lollipop, and it has something that the company is calling an Emotion User Interface (EUI). Huawei’s EUI is very similar to what Apple has done, and it’s not really reminiscent of what most Android phones look like. You’ll find apps spread across the phone and swiping gestures that are very similar to what Apple has created.

There’s also the price of this phone. Unlike other options in the same class, the P8 is somewhat affordable at $531. It’s also one of the few phones from this company that has started to attract attention in North America. Where most Android flagships from unknown companies don’t get much notice outside of Asia, this isn’t the case with the P8. People want an option that is technically an Android but looks like an iPhone and is also affordable, and that’s what the P8 really is.

Arriving in the US

Right now, the P8 is available in a number of different countries including China, Germany, France, Columbia, Spain, the UK, and Mexico. The company has yet to say when the P8 will arrive in the US or in Canada, but it’s selling well elsewhere which means that it will show up stateside relatively soon. Even though there aren’t that many phones from this company out there in North America, the P8 may just put Huawei on the map in both Canada and the US.

If you are looking for a phone that’s an alternative to the iPhone, the new P8 from Huawei might be a good option when it does arrive in North America. If you live in one of the countries mentioned, you already have access to this phone, and it’s worth looking at. Not everyone has the money to spend on an iPhone, and not everyone loves the iPhone 6.

Huawei may have just come up with a phone that does most of what the iPhone does (no fingerprint sensors though) for a fraction of the price, and that’s something that will make a lot of people sit up and take notice - something that this company has wanted from the North American market for a while now.
